From a cyber brain to humanoid robots to an AI doctor, the year had its share of unique and intriguing startups that raised cash. Today we look at five funded startups that caught our eye. But it wasn’t all AI. We were also intrigued by a company that says it’s engineered hybrid trees to grow faster, and a doctor-less doctor’s office. Per Crunchbase data, global investors have poured approximately $13.9 billion this year into companies working on everything from battery recycling to water-conserving crops. That puts 2023 on track to come in roughly even with last year — not bad for a year in which venture funding has fallen in almost every other industry.
